Data structures are the objects/structure you use to store data -- such as: Hash tables, Heaps, B-Trees, AVL trees, dictionaries, linked lists, arrays, etc...

Data structures are just that : particular ways to organize data in a computer.

I scholar.google.com searched for Introduction to Data Structures... I recommend you check your school's library for some books, I got this for you : https://people.cs.vt.edu/~shaffer/Book/C++3e20110520.pdf

As far as I understand Data Structures are the ways you can work with information in your programming and they may differ by languages. R for example works with vectors almost always but can have more complex things like data frames, just like C can use arrays, lists or vectors, or Python that is dynamicaly typed, so you need to predict how variables are created, (i.e. what data structure is defaults to), etc...

Take a look at that book, hope it's useful. If not you should ask some of your teachers.

Do get back to me once you find out tho, I'm interested... Also studying CS though just 3rd semester starting next August. :)
