RX480 - Specs

norritt

taobao.com has released this GPU-Z screenshot of an RX 480 (see below). Telling from the numbers it might outperform a GTX980, delivering a 26% higher Texture-Fillrate and 14% higher memory bandwith. Also the 8GB of memory will be a nice improvement over the GTX 980s 4GB.

Interesting detail I noticed: The card doesn't seem to be supporting DirectX 12.1 but only DirectX 12.0.

AMD cards generally have a higher texture fillrate and lower pixel fillrate compared to nvidia ratio. I guess Polaris isn't bucking that trend.

also, DX12_1 is basically nvidia stuff.

For fun, heres a screenshot of 390 and 390x gpuz. hmm... 480 pixel fillrate is low... and 32 ROPs....

@Briggsy: Yes that was also the first thing that caught my eye, I tend to forget that Pixelfillrate pretty much doesn't matter that much these days.

Also interesting - judging form the raw numbers the 390X will probably still outperform the RX 480.

Is the 480 the flagship amd card for polaris or is there a 490 coming out? or an equivalent of fury?

It is the smaller die gpu and not the highest end SKU, so that's both expected and normal. compare something like 660ti and 580, 660ti is significantly lower in both but is still 30% faster over all.

vastly different architectures between kepler and thermi though. iirc, the rumour was GCN 4 had a 10% higher "IPC" (if you can even use that term) over GCN 3.

@Maybach123 AFAIK there is nothing official about a 490(X) or a Fury successor, but I'm very sure AMD will deliver some 14nm successor to the 390X and the Fury X middle-term.
