MS Word Template Problems

Perhaps you can share some insight on this problem i'm having:

 

So at work we've got a macro enabled word template that we store on a network location; users have been having problems with it so i've taken a look at how i could fix it.

 

Issues:

inability to use macro boxes (even after enabling macros)

constant save-as loop when trying to close the document

Opening certain documents causes word to crash

 

- These issues are common to a multitude of users

 

Attempted remediation - i've done some fiddling with advice from ms technet/other forums - the only real significant change i've since made is to change the document template (File --> Options --> Addins --> Manage --> Templates) from the document name/proprietary template to Normal.dotm

 

This addresses the issue of the endless save loop - partially.

 

However, what I've noticed is that when you open the document for the first time - you will have the above problems. if you close it immediately after opening - then open it again a second time, you shan't be plagued by the aforementioned issues.

 

At this point in time i'm not sure where to head from here -

 

Any pointers chaps?
