So I am going to university in September and I need a computer for it because I am doing game design.  I have built a computer on pcparticker.com (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/KZwBm8) to the specs I think I will need for the course.  And I need the graphics card for gaming cause I am a heavy PC gamer of course.  Anyway, I don't know exactly what software we will be using but my course (http://www.staffs.ac.uk/course/SSTK-11161.jsp) says we will be doing 3D modelling the first year so any 3D modelers or game designers on here that can help me out and give some incite or opinions on my build? Kinda rambling but if anything needs clarification just ask, thanks.

That's quite a solid build. 3D modeling is rather intensive, although not as intensive (gpu wise) to some of the newer triple a titles. The 1070 will do fine. The cpu is also an alright choice for rendering, exporting files, etc.

Thanks for the input but you said the CPU is an alright choice? Would you recommend something with more cores?

Make sure you have a mobile computer too just in case. I tried going desktop only at first and within a few months went out and bought a Macbook for class. It's amazing how many classes it's useful to have a laptop with you to work on projects, study for other classes in down time, and work on work between classes. I often had hour or longer breaks between classes with more than a miles walk back to my dorm (UCONN is huge). Whipping out my macbook in a study lounge, dining hall or union between classes to study slides or work on code was so valuable.

Not everyone will have the budget for macbook+desktop but make sure you have something 11-13in and decent to carry around. It'll be the best decision you make.

I do have an iPad with a keyboard case so I think that might work...
