Yello,

So I'm finally getting around to building myself a new rig. Well, some of it's new, some of it repurposed. But, the majority will be new, so I'm looking for input. I've been building for about a decade now, but not so much recently. I've done as much research as I can stand, now it's time to put it out there and see what everyone thinks.

I have SSDs already, a 1440p 144hz monitor and an 850 Gold PSU (edit: and the case listed below). My biggest question is, do I get the 6700K or the 6600K? I know that typically, an i5 would be more than enough in a rig primarily used for just gaming. But from what I've been reading, DX12 and emerging titles using it, will be able to take better advantage of the i7s extra cores etc. So, given I don't want to have to upgrade this for a few years, do I go the i7?

Damn, I'm glad I don't live in Australia. Those prices are crazy. The 1080 is double what it is supposed to be...

Anyway, yes go with the i7 6700k.

Tell me about it! It's pretty crazy. I've look at sourcing a 1080 from overseas but by the time you apply our GST and shipping etc. not to mention our horrendous exchange rate, it's just not worth it.

Cool, certainly am leaning toward to i7. See no reason why not.

Yeah, I did read that it's a monster of a cooler. From my research, the relatively low profile HyperX RAM should be fine. My concern now is that it clears the first PCI slot! I knew it was big, hence checking the RAM, but it appears I may underestimated just how big.

Don't go overclocking man. it's not worth it if you are just gaming. I was just telling this to someone else who wants to build himself a new pc. Don't belive me? Watch any i7 6700k OC video and look how much increase in FPS it has. 10-15 in triple A games. I think that's not worth the extra $150-$200 for good mobo, psu, K processor.  http://pcpartpicker.com/list/PG3qsJ - this is what I would recommend.

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600, MOBO: MSI Tomahawk B450, RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 3000 (2x8 GB), GPU: MSI RTX 2080 Gaming-X Trio, CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S, PSU: Corsair RM 650, HDD: WD Blue 1TB, SSD: Samsung 860 ECO 500GB, CASE: Fractal Design Meshify C
