PCIE Wifi cards

Theseus_3gg

I'm building a computer but recently changed my networking set up from a wired one to a wireless one. Having reviewed the parts for my computer, I realised that my motherboard doesn't support any wifi. . . gg wp me.

So I was hoping someone here could help me out by recommending me a good PCIE Wifi card. My knowledge of these doesn't go far, so :/

Thanks guys

honestly, anything that ships with an antenna with a wire is decent from my experience.

On the cheap this works well https://pcpartpicker.com/product/tTdqqs/gigabyte-wireless-network-card-gcwb867di

On the more expensive side this works great https://pcpartpicker.com/product/bQ8Zxr/asus-wireless-network-card-pceac56

I have used both and both work fine, the Asus one works phenomenally, although not worth the price unless you have something like 1Gb network connection.

TP-Link N900 is the one I have. No problems with drivers or speeds (~100 Mbps 10 meters from the access point through 2 walls). I would go with Powerline instead of WiFi if it is at all possible.

Case: NZXT Phantom 530; Motherboard: ASUS Z97; CPU: i5 4670K; Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO; RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB; Graphics Cards: EVGA GTX 760; PSU: Seasonic SS-660XP2; SSD: SAMSUNG 840 Pro 1TB

No such luck so far, I'm seeing loads of £12-15 ones but I don't know if they're any good. . .

whatever you do... do not get the Gigabyte - GC-WB867D-I, it has wireless issues where you will get random ping spikes, it has the intel ac7200 chipset and its so bad, i recommend the TP-LINK Archer T8E, really good and not too expensive.

Okay, so here is the deal when it comes to networking equipment, you get what you pay for!

The lower quality (cheaper) adapters are built for "normal" use.  Which means things like browsing the internet (and by "browsing the internet" I mean things like look at CNN, Reddit, or LTT).  Then you have your mid grade stuff, which is meant for more multimedia oriented task, like watching Netflix, or browsing around on facebook and such.  Then you have your higher end stuff, which is meant for low latency gaming.  Then you have your enterprise stuff meant for gigabytes of data to be transferred over your LAN back and forth.

Considering you're on this forum I'm going to slip you into the "higher end" stuff group and assume that you plan on gaming for more than 1 hour at a time.

$100: https://amzn.com/B00F42V83C

$75: https://amzn.com/B00TQEX7AQ

$65: https://amzn.com/B00JNA337K

$50: https://amzn.com/B00PVCVZ74

And you also need to buy what is within reason for your modem, router, and access point.

If you need help with that, let me know.

(I have the ASUS PCE-AC68 and consistently get 800Mbps+ {or about 120MBps} transfer speeds and my latency is very reasonable with a 60ms ping and about a 3ms jitter at about 1000 miles away on a medium grade DSL connection)

I've had REALLY good luck with this card using it on a 5Ghz band - I've actually bought a couple of them now.
