Used xeon CPU for gaming?

AndreBex

Would this even hold up as a gaming rig in today's standards?

CPU: XEON E5504 clocked @2.4GHz

Motherboard: Gigabyte X58 UD3R 1356

RAM: 18g DDR3 ECC RDimm (i guess at 1333mhz speed?)

GPU: Radeon HD5770

PSU: Fractal Design 650w

Case: Fractal Design r5

So my question is, will it hold up. In a gaming scenario now a days? The CPU is overclocked at 2.4ghz. Its advertised as a workstation for around 300usd. Could I just upgrade the GPU and have a decent gaming build?

i would not go for it since the platform is pretty old and i would go from scrach since you can get much better  , also what is your budget and what is the currency we at the forums are happy to build a system for your budget

My memories of a corpse, mind full of sick thoughts.

Well since my budget is around 300, for new I think I would be running with the i3 6100 with Intel HD graphics, and then in a month or two get like a rx470 I think.

So im looking old. Found someone selling i7 950 with a 6990, very old but decently.

Or my personal favourite, but I haven't heard back from him, a 4460 with a 960. Those two for just under 300.

But I'd you can mock up a build for me that would be helpful!

Sorry, wasn't being clear, 300 would be my total budget, just saying the main components of what I was looking for. Both those used pcs have everything I need for 300.

Personally i would go for it for just $300 dollars heres why the Define R5 is a great silent case , the power supply is 650w which will run perfectly , the ram amount for $300 is the best deal , the motherboard is the best one for the 1366 socket since i has 2 Ethernet connectors is ATX and supports overclocking , just sell the CPU and buy a Xeon X5550 that should do the job and get like a rx480 or rx470 and you got yourself a gaming pc

I'd hold out for that. I have a 4460 & a 970 and usually get 40-60fps at 1440p on newer games or over 100 on less intensive ones
