Computer Randomly Restarting

Hi everyone!

 

It has been quite a while since I have hung out with all of you lovely people, but today I came back because I really need some help. Recently my PC has just been restarting randomly. At first it started when I playing games, like for instance it would stutter, completely stop, and then just restart. Then this started happening even I was just browsing the internet or using programs such as FL Studio. 

 

I have a strong feeling that it is the GPU, since it the old component in the system(3 years). The PSU and the CPU are only 6 month old, so I do not feel like it could those two components causing the issues. I have had the mobo for about a year and a half. so that could also be causing the issue.

 

So here is my question: I have the money to replace one part, but I do not want to waste my money on getting something that wasn't broken in the first place. So what do you guys think is causing the issue?

how are your temperatures and usage?

From what I am guessing, you probably have the knowledge and skills of building a pc. This is how I would approach the problem.

Disassemble the entire PC.

Restart the PC with minimum stuff. For ex: PSU, MOBO, Processor, 1 stick of RAM and just the SSD. I would even leave it outside the case for quick troubleshooting. Then reset the BIOS settings, Reinstall the OS(back up all your files on a portable drive ofcourse).

 

If the PC doesnt restart while use, all the items that are in the pc setup are fine except the ones you left outside this time. If it restarts, then you know that either processor, PSU, mobo, RAM or SSD is causing the issue or anything you plugged in in your test setup.

 

I would run several tests with different components one by one until you can narrow your search down to the common item in the setup thats causing the issue.

Here is HWMonitor, I have had it running since I first started my computer today. Nothing seems too out the ordinary to me.

Have you done any overclocking by any chance? If you have I would recommend setting the stuff to stock speeds just to see.

I will give it a try and update if I come to any resolutions. Thanks for the suggestion.

reset to stock speeds and see if it resets.

Before you disassemble the PC, Get the GPU out, and see if your computer keeps restarting, and reset the BIOS and remove the overclock.

So then it's running at stock while not gaming? Hmm.....

If you do believe the GPU is the one causing this issues you could try plugging your monitor into your mobo and see if the problems persist when that happens, though I don't think a GPU failing would cause issues like that. However, you did mention it started with games, which means it could be GPU related....

I would say go first, as @SeanAngelo said, take out the OC. If problems persist, try taking the GPU out and using the onboard graphics.

Alright. Also I moved the GPU down to the 8x PCIE slot on my Mobo and it has not restarted at all.

I did it before I started my PC today, and so far no issues.

 

Edit: Also I do not have on board graphics, I have AMD.

That's weird...

Also, I want to get one thing straight. By restart, do you mean that your PC just shuts off and then turns on again by itself? Of the screen goes out and then comes back on later right where you left off? Or it starts restarting (as in the PC says it is restarting)?

What happens is the screen goes black, then show the windows sign with the little spinning dots, just as if I had turned it on.

Fact that most people don't know: 

You actually do have onboard graphics. It's just not on the CPU; instead with AMD fx CPUs it's integrated onto the mobo. That's why there should be some sort of a display output on your mobo.

Welp, I have no outport on the back of my mobo for graphics.

Just realized only some AMD fx motherboards have onboard graphics.... And your chipset doesn't have them . nvm
