My plan is to modernize this classic media center pc. I want to run all new hardware (including the motherboard) and Windows 10. This will be a workstation, and not a heavy gaming pc. The case will look like the provided picture, but it will have all modern ports behind the port doors and stuff like that. I have never built a computer before, and hardware recommendations (with pricing) will help greatly. Also, if somebody can tell me what size case this is, that would also help greatly. Thanks!

Welcome  to the forums!

That's probably a Micro ATX case, but a picture of the motherboard and other components inside would be nice to confirm that.

What's your budget for new components?

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

Here's a question. Can I reuse stuff like fans, because they still work. About the budget... I'll try to give you those numbers soon. I'm not sure if this computer has ever been upgraded, but I'll ask around. Here are some pics. Sorry about the camera quality. (I'm using an old Macbook Pro.) I'll give you more zoomed in pics in a second.

My budget is around $800 USD, and I will probably upgrade this system later.

how did you do the ports?

I have one of those cases that I want to do as well (I have all the parts in an already functioning case but I thought it would be cool)

also do you think I could use one of the DVD drive bays for storage. in my current build I have an SSD for boot but it is only 240gb so I also have a 1tb WD blue

thanks
