The savings really aren't that great with that, why wouldn't you just get a new one?

Not sure. If anything it's older. If it's the new version, they're the same price. Sure, you might get twice the storage, but it's not that expensive to upgrade that, and with the refurb you get a much shorter warranty, and it's been used, broken, and fixed.

it still has heat problems and quality problems.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...
