I've been working on a website at work on a Windows 7 based system and it works/looks fine, but as soon as I try to open it from my Mac the format (fonts/spacing) is a bit off and some of the functionality doesn't work right (the drop down menu doesn't work). The site is NOT live and I'm viewing it by opening up the .htm files. Will the issues persist when I run the site off the actual server or is there some other compatibility issue?

It might be plugins you have installed in your browser that is blocking javascript and similar. It could also be the screen resolution if your website isn't responsive. But most likely it's something blocking scripts and your browser isn't downloading fonts, and other things you might be using like bootstrap etc.

There's no javascript on the site and the site is responsive. Something interesting....I edited the site a bit (I changed something completely unrelated -- some text in one of the text bodies) -- and now the dropdown navigation bar is working properly and the spacing seems to be right. So I'm not sure what to make of things.

But are you using something like bootstrap/external fonts? If you are it might have been that the bootstrap/font files wasn't properly downloaded for some reason (internet being down for just a short while or that the download just failed). And when you edited and refreshed, it successfully got the external files. Other then that I have no idea why it might have happened. But glad you made it work!

Yes. Browsers all differ slightly and will render pages differently. Using fonts or CSS that a browser or operating system doesn't have will cause it to look different.

If this is a website for work you should probably also consider all the other major browsers and older IE support down to at least IE8.
