Upgrading ram in the future, add or replace?
2 minutes ago, Firefox365 said:So I am getting a X99 ASRock Motherboard (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/xJFPxr/asrock-motherboard-x99extreme4) for my first pc build. Now I want to start with 32GB of RAM, but I might in the years to come decide I want 64GB. If I have 4x8 right now, would I have to replace all of that with 4x16 or would I be able to just buy another 4x8 of the same model and add it to the other 4 slots on the board?
Thanks for the Help.
Alot of the time it will not work, sometimes RAM that are identical will not work together. That's why there are packs of RAM cause they were all tested together (why you shouldnt buy them individually). Personally I see no reasons you need more then 32GB of RAM unless you have a billion virus' taking it all up (but your choice). You would usually have to take out all your old RAM and buy new RAM for your board (of 16GB).
