Hey everyone,

I've seen every speak about the non x version of the R9-290, does any have a link to some info on it or anything?

Does it even exist?

I did a few searches and some (clearly misguided) people said it was essentially a 7990.

I'm wondering cause a R9-290x is out of my price range but this may not be.

I'm the one who overclocks.

It's currently a rumor. We'll have to wait.

Currently a rumour, but the name should serve to tell us that it's basically a very slightly cut-down R9-290X. Maybe BIOS flash to a 290X (like the HD6950 -> HD6870)?

It's currently a rumor, but it's likely we'll see one. It's probably going to replace the 7950. To me, it looks like the R9 290X will use the best binned GPUs with all 2816 SPs working, while the R9 290 will use the GPUs that are "lower" binned, or have minor defects, so they limit it to 2560 SPs and 160 TMUs to sell at lower costs. It's kind of like how the 7970 had all 2048 SPs, while the 7950 had the same GPU, but of lower quality, limiting it to 1792 SPs. They are essentially the same card, with the same GPU, but the quality differs.

I seriously doubt they will commit the same "mistake" again.

I hope the thing gets released as a little brother to the R9-290X, kind of like a 7950 to the 7970. We will have to wait and see, I hope it has 4GB 512bit VRAM and performance wise something between a 770 and 780.

It's official on R9-290X, it has 4GB 512bit and hopefully the R9-290 does too based on perivous generations.

I guess it will be the 7950 equivalent of the R9 series. So as the 7000 series had the 7950 and the 7970, this will be R9 290 and R9 290X. Let's wait and see.

If my thought is true i might opt in to 2 R9 290's instead of 2 R9 290X'. But i hope it is not a 7k-remake-ripoff... I swore to me i would skip the 7k series and get the one after that and go over the top. still... i believe my bank account feels pretty bad ;)

I think 3GB would do, unless you plan on cross-fire.

i would have thought (just me) that the 290x would be the titan killer, the 290 is the 780 rival, theres be a 280 which is effectively a 7970, doing what nvidia did 680-770, 670-760.
i like the idea of them making a 285 with the 290 cores on the 7970 memory structure (its not like we're dying for bandwidth), that would be an awesome price/performance.
