Hi! I have this old computer as my main. I've mentioned it before. What I'm worried about is that the harddrive has been very strange lately. It's more audible, and games that used to run fine can be rendered unplayable. In Far Cry 3, the intro sequence, which is a video, was choppy and unwatchable.

I know that the rest of my components are fine, so I looked at my harddrive. I got HDD Scan because My HD Tune trial expired. What confuses me is that all of the lights are green. These are the results:

What's going on here? Is it failing?

I'll gladly give you more info if you ask for it!

I've a good chunk of stuff backed up on an external HDD.

Hard drives tend to become unbearably slow if they're dying.  Like, Far Cry would take like 6 hours to load.  Try doing a defrag or maybe just reinstalling.  Also what is the noise like?  If there's a lot of loud clicking it's definitely dying.

It doesn't take long to load, and a lot of games, like BioShock Infinte run just fine. It just skips at times. Maybe I have too much open at once?

I can't defrag or reinstall. I wouldn't have an OS anymore at that point.

It's not clicking. It's just spinning and occasionally searching.

I was asking for you users to tell me what the results mean.

Hi there WFMB :)

The S.M.A.R.T. status of that WD Green drive doesn't show anything alarming aside from the 6941 ms Spin Up time. I would download and run WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see if the drive passes both the quick and the extended tests. This should show you if the drive is safe to operate with or not.

I would also recommend creating a backup of your important data just to be on the safe side.

Have you checked the load on your hardware when the stuttering happens? Does the HDD hit 100% usage?
