so I am upgrading my computer, I am replacing the gtx 970 with the 1070 do i need to delete my current driver.

Please note I have sold my 970 and cant get the system to boot without it.

Ubuntu 24.04 on Ryzen 5 5600x and GTX 1070

Mint 22 on Razer Blade i7-11800h and RTX 3070

get the 1070 it should work but make sure to uninstall your current drivers and instal the new ones for the 1070

yes becuase it would work without the drivers installed just make sure to uninstal the 970 drivers as fast as you can to prevent ant crash
