I got mine mobo, cpu, ram for under $300 usd.

Xeon e5-2670, Intel DX79sr, 16gb g.skill Ares, evga sc 780ti, antec 750 80 plus gold, Phantek Entho pro case

Well if the budget is not problem then just go with a sick dual socket system for the cool factor and the baller performance but then you might be better of looking for the v2 series or maybe even v3 seeing as they are newer and have better single core performance and lower power usage. But if you look at pure performance for gaming, the e3 might be better because single core but e5's are just sick.

An i5 6400 would be a better option for gaming, the xeons would be good for gaming, but not as well as an i5, if you play more gpu intensive games then you wouldn't even notice a difference, but you will never hit over 40% on one chip for gaming so most of the power of the chip is wasted.
