Posted June 6, 2016 Author Here are my thoughts 2x8 pin connector and its only 17mhz faster than the SC 1708 / 1847 I expected higher clocks out of the factory. I mean an SC for all we know could literally beat the FTW version with the card lottery. It seems like this time around EVGA focused on RBG with the FTW instead of actual performance. Posted June 6, 2016 I'm patiently awaiting info about the Classified. I want to know who will be doing a block for it because EK confirmed on EVGA forums that they have not been approached by EVGA to do a hydro copper version meaning it probably will be made in house ? 7800x3d - RTX 4090 FE - 64GB-6000C30 - 2x2TB 990 Pro - 4K 144HZ PCPP: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/mdRcqR
 Posted June 6, 2016 That clock is only 13MHz higher than SC version. I will be going for SC anway, just because of waterblock compatibility. But it seems like that additional 8pin doesn't help at OCing this card more. Sure those are stock clocks, but if they could achive higher clock, they would probbably increase those base clocks right? I guess that has to do something with 1,25V limit and bad scaling over 2000MHz core clock. I initially thought the FTW might be worth while, but at this rate, the Asus is 1st, FTW 2nd, and Gigabyte G1 is 3rd. Still waiting to see the clocks on Gigabyte Xtreme, Classified and HOF. Posted June 7, 2016 Author The Gigabyte Xtreme card has me worried, not sure how the stacked fans gonna work and if its going to be quiet or loud. The Classified is guaranteed to be north of the $700+ mark, the Hybrid is probably gonna be the same. I really like the MSI card, the size, the twin Frozr was the best fan last gen and I expect the new Twin Frozr 6 to be as good if not better than the Twin Frozr 5. True, but not everybody is interested in OC'ing to that extent and want to just buy a factory OC'd card that can work well day 1. Posted June 7, 2016 This thread hurts a little. Factory OC is meaningless - they need to ensure stability in all environments so the clocks will always be conservative. However, once you have the 10+2 power phases of a nice 1080 at home in your chilly room you'll be able to see what the differences are as the nicer card lets you push those sliders further to the right. Extreme gaming is the one using custom pcb( gtx 1080 roundup videos on youtube) G1 gaming now uses reference pcb sadly. Evga's hybrid uses the ftw pcb as well. Posted June 7, 2016 It's so easy to overclock an Nvidia card beyond it's factory overclock using Precision X or another utility. EVGA could leave the FTW at reference clocks and it wouldn't matter to most of us because we would have it up to 2ghz shortly after running a few benchmarks at the factory clock to set a baseline. Conservative or not, the factory OC is one factor to consider even when you are overclocking. There are of course many other factors that will determine if the card overclocks well but I'm assuming you know those. Why? The factory overclock is no indicator of anything (potential).

No, the factory OC isn't an indication of anything. Remember, TSMC makes the cores for everybody's 1080 while, so far at least, all I'm seeing is Micron GDDR5X. Power delivery is the only real difference between the different brands apart from coolers. You actually don't have to factor too much into buying a 1080 right now since the essential bits are shared between everybody's card. If you want rear-exhaust, go Founders. If you want water you can get a Sea Hawk. etc. Looks like most cards are topping in the 2-2.2GHz range anyway though so it probably just boils down to which one looks the best in your case.
