So I recently purchased a 6700k (about a month or so ago) for a custom rig I'm modding. However as I tried overclocking with the Intel multiplier and I noticed that the CPU wants to pull 1.52volts under 4.7Ghz. Even at stock 4Ghz the CPU wants 1.32volts. I can't get any better voltages (Chip is stable at 4.00Ghz with 1.32v.) I tried running 4.7 at 1.45v (as intel suggested be the limit) and it was somewhat stable for a time with Firestrike, AIDA64, Prime95 and Cinebench. However when I tried playing Bethesda games (Wolfenstein New Order and Doom) the system blue screened. So 1.45v isn't an option.

I saw other people with this chip get clocks of 4.6 etc with a mere 1.32volts and higher with sub 1.45voltages.

So what do you guys think? Did I lose the silicon lottery hard?

How many years would I be shaving off if I run it at 1.52volts? I am an enthusiast so I will replace this chip sooner or later so I wouldn't care much for a short life span.

Other 6700k overclocking discussions welcome as well.

What Overclocks and Voltages have you guys attained with your Skylakes?

Sounds like you got yourself a voltage hungry chip. But if you can cool 1.52v it should be fine.

Now, that your processor isn't stable at stock speeds / voltages is real bad. If that is so, you should have RMA'd it as it wouldn't have been stable at its stock configuration.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Thanks. That really takes a worry off my heart. Yes. I was planning on cooling it with a 420mm rad and 360mm rad and a EKWB monoblock. Thanks for the reply. It should be fine with that much heat dissipation. xD

I have a 6700K also.

Im getting on average, 4.8Ghz with a 1.36V.

Seems like I won the silicon lottery

All those rads are overkill.

For an OC CPU, the right amount would be a 480MM, or equivalent (such as 2x240mm)

A much better WB is the Koolance C380 (there are two versions, one for Intel and one for AMD)

These rads might be overkill for you. However I did not ask for an opinion on the cooling solution I am using. Koolance waterblocks do not look aesthetically appealing to me and I won't use them in my build. I chose the EKWB MSI M7 Monoblock for aesthetics not so much for the minute difference in cooling potential over some other block.

Thank you for the input anyway.
