Im torn, I really want one of these phones right now as another recent price drop makes them look insane for the price, The oneplus X is currently $199 and the oneplus One is $229. They are both pretty close and I don't know anything about bands either but I know they won't be the same. What exactly will be the software differences? Most information on the phones is 6 months old.

Ive had the oneplus one since a month or two after launch fully rooted with many roms etc, My uni mate james as the oneplus x. Spec wise they are identical however if your looking to root and crap the oneplus one has slightly better support.
Externally the oneplus one is larger with its plastic (but deffinatley still as strong) plastic edges. Bear in mind if you use cases the oneplus x having metal edges really does not matter.

So as said the X is a little smaller and metal sides with the ONE being larger with a sandstone back and plastic edges. I keep a rubber ditztronic case on my one with a tempered glass protector. The battery life on my ONE is stunning for me especially since my rom lets me underclock (with no noticable performance decrease).
I must say that please remember buying a oneplus phone of any model you should assume you have a slight chance of getting a broken phone and also assume customer support will be useless. With this in mind I brought my phone off ebay 1week old from some guy that said it was too big for him for £220. When i recieved it I thought the thing was huge I must admit, but I type a lot so it made typing easier and my fingers are longer than the average because I type a lot on desktops anyway. If you desktop type a lot you WILL GET USED to the screen size. 1 year in I will never go back to a smaller screen than 5 inch.
Yeah to conclude try and get a second hand one so you know 100% that it will work and if you use a PC daily dont get turned away by the large screen of the ONE>
The only other differences you should look into (im not sure but yeah) are the charging port, micro SD, storage sizes and camera.

I have been toying around with an honor 5x the last few days, and I don't mind the 5.5" screen but I do feel like a 5" might be perfect for me. I've never really been big on phones so I haven't rooted or added any custom roms. As far as the storage goes being that there is no expansion might be the thing that tips me over to the x. It's 50 dollars cheaper than the 64gb version and I don't think I want a 16gb with no expansion as my hope was to keep the phone a long time since I am a light user. But I also have concern about a smaller battery as that will also get weaker over time. This makes my brain not feel nice.

Yeah I was worried about the storage on my One and I have to admit it does bug me sometimes when my nandroid backups go to like 8gb. I try and keep 64gb sticks on me now and an OTG adapter in my wallet. It would be nice to just shove a 200gb micro sd in. I also keep a 10000mah battery bank on me in my bag. Give it a few weeks of using a screen size before you decide which one you prefer. I think I didnt get used to my ONE typing for maybe a month. And yeah deffo dont get a 16GB internal lol. I have 6GB of apps by itself and add stuff like Office and powerpoint as I occasionally view work stuff on my phone and that can easily go to 8 or 9+. rom probably takes up 4GB with updates and other features for me but the normal is probably 2GB for unrooted

As I said though I am a light user, I will be coming off a gen 1 moto g with only 8gb and no expansion lol. I don't think ill use more than 16gb but I also don't want to be put in a situation where I need it. I was thinking the x with a 32gb micro would be plenty. Do you think the battery difference would be mitigated by the fact the X has an amoled screen?

Battery life for me definatley depends more on background apps than screen. The clear all recent apps is a dream for me. but it really depends. I always have Kik,whatsapp, facebook messenger running and my battery life is okay. Always lasting me a day bearing in mind its underclocked from 2.5 to 1.7

Edit some people say brightness also matters but not for me. I only change brightness when using it in bed and then in sunlight

So what makes you say that I could get a broken phone buying new?
