When I play GTA 5 I get over 70fps but my monitor is pretty bad and looks laggy when I go above 60fps. When I enable vsync it stays at 60fps but then sometimes goes down to 40fps. Is there a way to stop it  from lagging?

Without Vsync you never drop to 40fps?

I belive that in some scenes you will have FPS drop regardless of vsync settings.

When I have vsync sometimes it drops to 50fps but very rarely. It is usually 70-80fps with it off.

Vsync is known for that, it's one of the reasons the PC crowd tends to hate it.

What do you mean when you say it looks "laggy" when you go above 60FPS?

GTA tears like a bitch

when you drive at high speeds and tearing occurs your car appears to judder between 3 different frames

instead of VSync try using framerate target control if you have AMD card or some other frame limiting option

you can also increase the graphics settings slightly to get closer to 60fps or try to cycle between Windowed, Windowed Borderless and Full screen options - see if that makes a difference

Storage: Samsung 950Pro 512GB // OCZ Vector150 240GB // Seagate 1TB | PSU: Seasonic 1050 Snow Silent | Case: NZXT H440 | Cooling: Nepton 240M

Thanks, How would I enable frame rate target control?

Have you tried Vsync with Triple Buffering? Supposedly this helps a lot with the "lagging" http://www.anandtech.com/show/2794

there is no option for that on gta. It only has "on" "off" and "half"

Force it in your driver options. Specifically look for Triple Buffering, but leave Vsync alone (as in let the game decide it)
