Improving Network Transfer Speeds?

SwiiftYz

I've just purchased myself a low end NAS so that I can start sharing files around the house easier, the first problem I've run into is the fact that my ISP provided router (which they force me to use, refusing to provide username/password etc) only has 100Mbit Ethernet. I was wondering If there's anyway I can increase my network transfer speeds without having the need for a different router, seeing as that's out of the question. Would a Gigabit ethernet switch do the job? I'm quite new to this side of things so I honestly have no idea.

yeah just use a switch instead of a router and connect your PC+nas to the switch then the switch to the router

just toss a switch behind that router like all sensible networking people do :P

gigabit switches come as low as €20 xD

EDIT: oh, and nothing's stopping you to put your own router behind the ISP provided one.

I hate them myself but I even bought myself a cheap ass D-Link NAS so I may as well get the switch too!
