U can use the scruffed up surface with a thicker paste with no issues :)

I am getting a new CPU soon, my current cooler is scuffed up because I used liquid ultra as my thermal compound and it requires you to use this brillo pad thing to scuff up the surface of you cpu lid and cooler. I plan on getting a new cooler and using a traditional paste thermal compound sometime in the next year so I have a question. With the scuffed up cooler affect my thermals if I just use standard paste right now? If so I will just buy more liquid ultra.
