Seagate Barracuda vs WD Black 2tb drive.

The WD Black is a faster drive AFAIK, and generally, WD is considered to be a more reliable brand than Seagate.

Edit: Actually, WD and Seagate seem to be pretty close in terms of reliability. https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliability-stats-q1-2016/

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

The specs seemed to match to me. Unless their "Improved architectural designs" actually does anything in terms of speed.

There are 3 HDD manufacturers (WD, Seagate and Toshiba) all of them make good hdds.

Go with the cheaper one or the brand you prefer.

Definitely wouldn't pay the price difference for the Black unless you're planning to set a RAID.

HGST is owned by WD IIRC.

But they're good quality.

I see. I'll probably go with the Seagate. I doubt $38 more is worth it for the WD.

just ordered the 3tb version of the Seagate drive from Amazon for $83! That's a win in my books as long as it lasts a while.

Hey there Sparkko :)

WD Black is designed for performance and longer and heavier workloads. As such it has some additional parts in it which makes it more durable and better performing than a regular drive. The additional stability features and vibration detectors enable it to work in more harsh environments. It has a built-in dual-core CPU for more optimized cachnig so the drive can handle heavier workloads during continuous usage and work very well for multitasking. Due to all the security features it comes with a long 5-year warranty. :)

Generally I would recommend to first consider what will you be storing on that drive before making your choice and if you need any specific features or a regular drive like WD Blue would suffice. What's the intended usage of the drive?
