So in the last fifteen minutes or so my computer has started to display weird graphical glitches, most notably static in areas of high variation in colour. This static builds to the point the connection between my monitor and computer is lost and then is re-established a short time later. Is this a  serious issue and what is causing it? How do I go about correcting it? I've tried re-plugging the hdmi cable, and I've also tried resetting both the monitor and the pc.

Are you overclocking your graphics card, does it happen when your gpu is under load, what gpu do you have?

GPU is not over clocked, I was just watching a youtube video when it first started. I've got a R9 280X, albeit a secondhand one. Never had any issues with it up until now.

If you can try testing it on another display and try testing your system with another graphics card. Usually borrowing a friend helps. Sounds to me though like the GPU is the issue, hopefully its still under warranty and you can RMA it.

Sounds like the card is dead. If it is a second hand one chances are it has no been used lightly. Try using on-board graphics and see if that fixes it. If it dose get a new GPU

Ok, well I have to do some disassembly for some RAM troubleshooting this week anyway, I'll see what difference I get with onboard graphics.

Cool. Hope that will fix it for you!

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
