suggestions for upgrade

 im planning to buy a used i7 (2nd gen or 3rd gen) so i wont be replacing my MOBO. so could you suggest a 2nd or 3rd gen i7 that i can upgrade to

Although it won't be able to be overclocked on that board. Perhaps normal 3770 turns out cheaper and performing similarly.

if we were buying new I'd say get the 3770 since the only real difference is a 100 MHz lower base clock than the 3770k, but my gut tells me there will actually be 3770k for cheaper, since we're in the used marked and there were probably far more of them bought

So the recommendation I'd make is "the cheapest you can find between the 3770 and the 3770K".
