Lately I've heard some stories in the news I'm sure you've all seen like a zoo gorilla being shot after a kid fell into its enclosure and some animal rights activists attempting to rush the podium at a Bernie Sanders rally. Animal Rights I'm sorry to admit hasn't been a huge topic in my mind in recent time because of more human concerns, but I'm curious what the community here at LTT feels about these animal rights topics.

Personally I did watch a clip of the zoo incident and as much as I hate to say it I probably agree with killing the gorilla. It was just too unpredictable to take the chance with the kid. That being said I would totally charge or try to slap the biggest fine on this kids parents as possible for being massive irresponsible idiots. If you're not prepared to keep your eyes glued to your kid you should not go to a zoo. Lastly on this subject I have to think that it should've been a lot harder for this kid to get into that enclosure. I haven't been to a zoo in a while, but most I remember visiting have very tall fences or glass walls.

Onto the second topic I love Bernie Sanders. Maybe you don't, that's fine to me and I respect your opinion, but no protesters should ever try to rush the stage or podium of any political candidate or elected official. The secret service did a fantastic job from what I saw at eliminating the threat. That said... Why are animal rights activists attacking Bernie Sanders? Isn't that like the friendliest candidate towards their cause?! I'm pretty sure Bernie is all for animal rights. Even if he wasn't that's no excuse for what these people did, infact I grow sickened by all these protests and violent incidents surrounding this year's election on all sides. I just want it to be over already. Atleast then I won't have to constantly feel kind of bummed that my candidate isn't doing that well in the election.

So in my opinion I guess to sum up I'm kind of ignorant to the whole problem the topic brings up. I love our two cats. They were here as emotional support as my dad died from an awful progressive disease. Other family members wanted to get a shelter to take them later, arguing that they were becoming an inconvenience. I think I was the only one who actively voted no saying it was irresponsible to dump a problem on others. Luckily the place wouldn't take them because we didn't have the right paperwork or something. By that luck we still have our furry little friends as much as they frustrate us. I guess as far as "food" animals go if you don't like the way they're treated you can boycott and be vegan. I rarely eat meat anymore myself as it is, and my reason wasn't even to make an animal rights statement.

I think there's a certain amount of bigotry with any cause and animal rights is no different.

People are so hell-bent on their opinions or beliefs that they cannot stand others with different opinions. We're all guilty of it at some point. Perhaps it's as simple as unfriending someone on Facebook that shares Trump-supporting articles, but it's still bigotry. It's still a level of prejudice.

Many protesters are like this. An example of this is the Women's Suffrage campaigns in Britain, the suffragettes were more militant, killing themselves under kings horses, setting fire to the future prime minister's house and smashing up shops. This nowadays is seen as good but it for the most part really didn't help the cause back then, many men were alienated by the attacks and it was men who made the decisions. It was instead the Suffragists that were the most successful campaigners, who used legal tactics to get their way.

The alienation of men and the (in some cases) misandry within the suffragettes meant that the campaign was less effective. Similarly, the violence and perhaps unjustified outrage over animal welfare will not help the campaign because it's just too extreme for the majority of the population.
