Rebuilding my PC

So I currently have a rather old build, i7 960, don't even know the motherboard, R9 380 Nitro, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, not the most up to date. Runs pretty well, but I'm upgrading this winter and I am just going to be getting new RAM, a new CPU, and a new motherboard. I've looked a little bit, but was wondering what your thoughts were on what the best gaming setup would be?

All types of games, I have a computer for school so yes, just gaming. Resolution is 2560 x 1440 Freesync

Core i7 6700k, any z170 motherboard with good ratings, and any ram made by a trustworthy brand with fast speeds.

you can pretty much go all out with that, crossfire your gpu or upgrade if you want, and throw in an ssd
