It goes like this,

Display Port (DP) -> High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) -> Digital Visual Interface (DVI) -> Video Graphic Array (VGA) -> Anything else

That's not strictly true. On a purely specs level, DVI is superior to HDMI if looking at HDMI 1.4 or under, assuming you do not need the Audio Signal. DVI can also natively output an HDMI signal anyway (As can DP), and can even output the audio signal when using a DVI to HDMI Cable or adapter. HDMI 2.0 is superior to DVI spec though. And HDMI is undeniably more convenient.

DP is definitely the best all around interface type, but for 99% of people, there's going to be no difference between using DP, HDMI, or DVI.

@Ram_senpai, if your Monitor has speakers built in that you want to use, then use HDMI. Otherwise, use whichever cable you happen to have out of HDMI or DVI. Do not use VGA, as the analog signal is very susceptible to EMI (Interference which can cause phasing and ghosting on the screen).

If you have both HDMI and DVI cables (And your monitor doesn't have Audio - or you're not using it anyway), then it really does not make a difference which cable you use between the two. HDMI might be more convenient, as it's easy to connect and disconnect, but I find that the DVI connector is more secure, as it's a locking connector with the two screws to hold it into place.
