like said in the title i have a few question about pci-e risers.

i'm planning to buy a gtx 1070 next month and wanna mount it vertically in the fractal design define s case.

i like the looks of a vertical mounted gpu and i'm not planning on switching cases just for that.

1. does it impact performance? if yes how much?

2. is using a riser bad for my hardware?

3. does mounting a gpu virtacal impact cooling performance? temps

4. are there any custom pci-e brackets to mount the gpu vertical without me modding the case?

the only pci-e riser i could find to buy over here was the ''Hicom PCI-Express x16 Riser'' if anyone has experience with this please let me know!

also i can make some sort of a bracket my self to mount the gpu vertical if there are no custom pci-e bracket available.

thx in advance!

My last two cases have both used PCI-E risers. 1, No performance impact. 2. If it's designed well it shouldn't effect the hardware. 3, Depends on your case design. 4, Both risers were PCB's designed for my cases by the case vendor Alienware X51 R2 and Silverstone RVZ02.

I spend too much on my PC. Then I spend even more on my Sim Rig. Damn, this stuff's expensive.

Theoretically, No, it will not effect any performance. It just an extension cable. However, with a bad cable and soldering, PCI-E riser may increase resistance and may decrease the performance.

I can't think of the reason that using a riser will be bad for your hardware.

Mounting GPU vertically does not impact its cooling performance.
