So I have an item that has suffered cosmetic damage. I'm a bit worried if this is paint damage or just scuff marks. If it's scuff marks, is there any way to remove them?

Paint damage..PNG

Hard to tell just by a picture.

How does the damage feel? Is it smooth to the touch, slightly bumpy, rough, etc?

What kind of paint is it? Regular paint that you find on consumer electronics, or something more durable like coated automotive paint with protective layers?

If it's the former, pretty much any damage to the paint is permanent. If the paint has a clear coating on top, you can often buff the marks out.

You could still try buffing the paint and see if that helps. You can use a cloth by hand, but that will take forever. Ideally, you'd use a circular grinder type power tool with the buffer attachment (Basically a large spinning disc of incredibly soft cloth, often with many layers).

You could also simply try wiping the area with a damp cloth or microfibre towel.
