Chromecast power problem

Just picked up a new google Chromecast second gen. When i plugged it into a power bar the thing would not update. Switched it from the power bar to straight wall power with no power bar and it updated in 30 seconds. so i repeated this a few times with other power bars around my house and i got the same results. Also no issues when running it off USB power. Just wondering if any one out there has had the same problem and if any one knows the cause of this i would love to know why. Thanks!
