You won't get anywhere with this. The CPU is garbage, the GPU is too weak to run anything, even at 480p. An A10 7890K would be the best option

No - A88X is for OCs. With the cooler he should be able to drive a decent OC on the iGPU. A68 also needs a BIOS update first

he did say he can't spend anymore than $450, and adding an a88x and heatsink would have broke his budget by too much. he can switch the old heatsink out easily if he felt like it. but at this price, i feel that he should really get some parts used instead of going for an all-new pc.

The stock heatsink is crap and it will thermal throttle - a cooler is a MUST. He can wait 1-2 weeks for the A88X - it's worth it

as OP said, his father won't let him spend more then $450. going for an a88x wouldn't be too bad since its only $10 more but the heatsink will go too far over the budget. and he can easily swap the cooler out for another one in future, where he would have the $ to pay for it, easily.

Running the APU at extreme temps is likely to cause damage and thus the OP will end up with a broken 200$ APU for no reason.... Either buy a heatsink or don't buy anything.

he can't afford the heatsink, don't you understand? he said he can't spend more than $450, because his father wouldn't let him spend more than that. AMD wouldn't add an insufficient stock cooler with their cpu, they would have to deal with more RMAs otherwise. while it sucks and sounds as loud as a jet engine, its still enough, even if its just enough, to cool the cpu. He can add the cooler next time, unless his father allows him to spend more than that. i don't want to have him go over budget on an aftermarket heatsink and get scolded by his parents because of it.

Dual core is enough for bf4 and watch dogs , but honestly i would recommend an athlon x4 ( which wasn't avilable ).

However , if you can , you should seriously consider buying used .

true , but at this price point i don't think he can afford it , and the 7860k has a 65W TDP , which should help the old stock cooler.
