So I decided to reinstall windows 7 profession 64-bit. And after doing so am having the svchost problem where it uses a large percent of your ram. I've looked online for solutions and none of them have work.
So am out of ideas how to fix this problem, below you can see the problem am having. As you can see svchost is using 78% of my ram and I have no programs running/open other than my anti-virus.

Any ideas? I basically cant do anything on my pc because of this.

Thats the guide I used and it did not help at all. :(

A lot of people are saying about doing the windows updates as there are many hotfixes. Have you done this?

I've been to the windows website and downloaded to the hotfix and again it didn't work. I've only done one because it was only one I could find.

Agree, it's a Windows update issue.

Go to Administrative Tools > Services and disable Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer service, then reboot the computer.

After reboot, enable those two services right before running the two below.

Download the full pack of updates from Microsoft from here (must use IE as far as I know) , it's a ~400 MB pack : http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=3125574

You may need to install a small 4 MB update before running the big pack : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=46827

The pack contains all the updates released since SP1 up until May inclusive.

After installing all updates and rebooting and all that, you may want to hit Start and then type Cleanup to see  "Disk Cleanup" entry, right click on it and select run as administrator, select your boot partition and it should give you the option to delete a whole bunch of windows update backup crap and logs and other things.

From this point, it's up to you, if you want you can disable Windows Update service so that it won't bug you again, but you should enable it once every month or so and click on Windows update in the menu and see which updates are available. That's what I'm doing. No sense keeping a service running 24/7 if I only want to update the system every couple of weeks or once a month.

More details about the pack I linked to above : https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/windowsitpro/2016/05/17/simplifying-updates-for-windows-7-and-8-1/

when you reboot you will have W10 installed.

Well I dont have the Windows 10 thing on my task bar, so dont know if it installed or not. But svchost.exe total ram usage gone to 150,000 k.....

However at writing this out, its now gone up to 99% for about 30 seconds then down to 75-99% ram usage. So I have no idea whats happening XDD
As seen in the image, it goes up to 99% or so then drop back down to 74-ish percent. So am not sure whats going on. Also svchost.exe is taking up 25-30% of CPU usage.

could be a logic bomb.

what do you mean? Its the 4th time I've formatted my harddrive and have installed windows three times.

All I done is install like steam, chrome and so forth. The reason why I reinstalled because I got a pop up add in my browser seeing I was caught by the police for watching underage porn while looking at some modding websites for games... so I thought I reinstall to make sure nothing is effecting my pc, so I did. It could be my email for my gmail account or synced data with it. However it svchost was using a lot of ram when I first opened task manager straight after installing windows and formatting my hard drive

Edit* the add or virus did say my location for sure, and maybe my IP. wasn't really looking. Just trying to close it down; which I use task manager to close chrome.exe

that stuff sits in ram too, not just the HD.

you mentioned chrome. shut it down. see what happens. ( msconfig box/start up and services. and I would check through that anyways to see what's really running.

I would also kill any auto updates for any apps or hardware.

start/search.......... type msconfig in the box/hit enter............ look under startup for stuff that runs but shouldn't be or doesn't need to be.

same thing with services. you'll see a checkbox at the bottom. select to isolate microsoft stuff so you won't do any harm. see what's running and deselect unnecessary apps.
