2x GTX 970 to GTX 1080?

SwiiftYz

When I purchased my 970's I was gaming at 1080p, 144Hz and was perfectly happy with it but as I've upgraded to 1440p over time and now also like to stream so I have two monitors running at once. I was wondering If the jump to the 1080 would be worth it? I play pretty everything there is that you can think of and would like to play the newest titles over the next two or three years without any issues (unless I eventually go 4K).

Would anyone advise the upgrade or be against it?

1080, no scaling issues, less power consumed.

Heavily agree with this.

dont get 2x 970 with only 4gb vram

1 stronger card is better than 2 "weak" so better get the 1080       ( and 8gb Vram should be nice on 1440p )

i wait for the 1080ti too ;)

If he is gaming at 60Hz 1440p, the 1080 is solid choice but that changes if it's 144hz..

The 1080 can do sub 100FPS in most games at 1440p but if you want to max your refresh rate then wait for 1080ti :)

Adding extra monitors for desktop tasks won't affect performance in any meaningful way.

If I'm not mistaken, the GTX 1080 is about equal to or occasionally slightly faster than two GTX 970's in SLI. There's the advantages of not relying on SLI, but for $600–700 it sounds like a very expensive side-grade to me.

Anyone have a guess if/when they will make a 1080Ti?

depending on what kind of 1440p he uses its a difference

i use 3440x1440p and get >120fps on BF4 maxed but way less on like witcher3 or fallout4 maxed

but there are no 144hz displays for this resolution only 100

if he uses 2560x1440 then the 980ti squeezes more performance with like 1,3 million pixels less

and now when 1080 comes the used 980ti should be affordable ;)

last year the ti came ~ 6months after the 80 modell so i guess the same this year

so i guess end of 2016 start of 2017 should be the time... maybe we have a miracle so the enthusiast ti & titan get HBM2 for the premium price
