Some of the many videos I have watched talk about open vs closed are GPU's but why is it that?

AMD and NVIDIA always seem (80% of the time) want the blower sort but then the other brands (e.g. Gigabyte, ASUS, HIS, EVGA, MSI, XFX, Sapphire) have their own style.

Most of the time open air coolers look way cooler (in my opinion).

If anyone can answer this question or would like to say something feel free to say what you like.

Closed air coolers are cheaper, and only use 1 fan instead of 2 or 3. That's why Nvidia and AMD use them, cost.

then why is the founders edition (reference) 100$ more?

Because people are retarded and will pay more for less.

That's literally the answer.

People will pay for anything, especially if you call it something special, make it an "Edition" of some sort.

They both have their uses. General rule is to always get an open air cooler as they are superior in cooling and performance (warranty too). The exceptions to this are if you are running multiple cards and cannot afford the cards to be as thick or to dump the hot air inside your case like open air coolers do. Close coolers are also used for water cooling as they're cheap (except founders edition) and the cooler is simply thrown away anyways.
