One night a few days back my internet went out and I still have no reason as to why, but when I went to restart my router in hope of getting the internet back, everything started going downhill. I have two connections of my router, a 5G and a regular, I usually use the 5G and my mom usually uses the regular one since she doesnt notice the difference anyway. So, I have a Z97 Pro from Asus, the Wi-Fi model, and it comes with this external adapter that you can use, which I originally used when I got the motherboard, but it wasnt working all that great and so I unplugged it and used my computer without it (which worked fine). Ever since I reset my router the other night, it hasnt worked (or has been complete shit and unusable) without having the adapter plugged into the motherboard. So now, my internet is going in and out (my 5G connection which used to be great is now meh to bad) and Im unable to use my PC without having the adapter plugged in. When playing games I will just cut in and out depending on when my router wants to kill itself for a minute or two at a time and spike to 1000ms+ and essentially kill whatever Im doing at the time.

I dont know where to start diagnosing, because I really dont understand what the issue is, my speeds have been noticeably worse since then as well. My connection is supposed to be anywhere from 40/40 to 50/50 and I just did a retest to find out that Im barely getting 5/5, so something is wrong either with my PC's adapter (which yet again, I never used to have to have plugged in) or my router. Help plz :c

Try testing your speeds and latency with your computer plugged directly into your modem. If the speeds are fine, then it's your router. From there, you can try resetting the router settings using the 30/30/30 method.

Ive never run my PC through ethernet, modem and router have never been close enough to me.
