Shielded Cat 6 would be your best bet. I've got one running about 25m from a switch to my Gaming PC in my bedroom with no noticeable degradation in speed or quality :)

It is so fiddly to cut and thread the ends, though.

You will not experience any speed loss, as long as the cable is decent quality.

Please do not use an RJ-11 (also known as a phone cable) as it is the wrong plug and will not work. What you're looking for is an RJ-45 Cat 5 or better rated cable.

 

As long as the cable is of high quality and not damaged, you shouldn't have an issue. Cat 5 and above cables are rated for Gigabit ethernet for up to 100m (theoretical maximum). The higher the cable rating the less chance of crosstalk.

Adding a longer Rj-11 cable shouldn't have any negative affects. Just imagine how long the cable going to the central office is lol.
