hey guys, I currently own a FSP Aurum CM Gold 750w modular power supply and after i had my system water cooled  i discovered that the power supplies fan is really loud when the system is under load. (really loud relative to the silence of the water cooled loop)

I was wondering if i could switch the default fan out from the psu and switch it to a better fan, lets say a noctua nf-f12 to make it more silent?

what do you guys think?

Good, Bad, lemme know!

thanks in advance :)

you can replace the psu fan with any 3 pin fan. its fairly simply to do but you void your warranty the moment you open the psu, so take your risk.

how long have you had the PSU? IMO, it is never a good idea to mess with the guts of something like a PSU. Just use the warranty service.

I get 60 frames at 1080p on a dual core APU. Ask me how.

DON'T OPEN IT! (Trust me, take this from someone who did a Cybernetics Degree, worked with power supplies a lot and still wouldn't dare open it).

Seriously, it was only a few weeks ago I read about a boy who was trying to canabalise his PSU for the fan, electrocuted himself, tragically died and was found by his Dad later that evening. Even if it meant buying a new one, because you can't do anything like clean it out any other way then do that. Your life is worth more than the hundred or so £/$ you might save.

I would suggest just upgrading to a better quality power supply, something with an 80Plus Gold or Silver minimum rating.

The fsp aurum is rated at 80 plus gold, I'm assuming it has a bad fan curve accompanied with a low quality fan is what causes the loudness.

I'm probably going to be looking into the corsair rm series power supplies for a silent replacement
