Internet drops when phone rings

About 4 days ago I upgraded internet from 1.2mb/s to 12mb/s and I had no issues with the 1.2mb/s (Other than it being infuriatingly slow) and ever since I upgraded to the 12mb/s my internet drops whenever my parents get home (It doesn't matter what time) and its so confusing because even if I have the wifi off it still drops every 10-30 mins but when they aren't home it will stay on without dropping for 7+ hours. Any suggestions?

Go into your router/gateway and see if it has any logs.

Seriously though, maybe have them turn off their phones/other electronics. A phone shouldn't be able to kill a router just by connected unless the router is REALLY terrible, but doesn't hurt to check.

Can i get a screen shot? What router/AP are you using? Did the ISP give you the wireless thing?

if it happens when wifi is off, we can rule out their devices causing it to drop down a grade (ac -> N -> G, etc. for example) and we can rule out them using a bunch of bandwidth.  That really only leaves the possibility of interference, no?  but that would be very strange...

Is there anything your oarents do when they are home that you don't, things like turning on particular light switches? Is there any possibility that there is a networking device, like another router, connected somewhere like their bedroom? It's a long shot, but if there were, it could cause network outages depending on its configuration. If this sounds totally crazy I blame being sleepy.

It could just be that your parents come home at the same time everyone comes home. So your internet connection is slowing down when your neighbours get home and start using the internet. Because you've already said you ruled out the possibility that your parents have anything to do with it.

We found out that as soon as you pick up the phone the internet drops, after figuring that out we completely unplugged the phone and dsl filter but it still seems to still drop

So I think I might have fixed it, I called our home phone and the internet dropped, I added a dsl filter and called again, no drop. I will keep this updated as the day goes on

 

Edit: I called the home phone again and it still seems like the problem is still there.

 

Edit 2: They are sending a technician out tomorrow to look at the lines.

 

Edit 3: The technician found that our lines were shorted out and he fixed them and so far (3 hours) the internet has not gone out, even with getting 3 phone calls :).
