Hello.

I recently dropped my nexus 5 in the bath.

I removed the battery, and packed the insides and covered the battery iin silica gel sachets. After two days II plugged the battery in and after pressing the power button, some lights shone up through the screen, lighting it up a very dark grey. I am considering buying a battery for £7 to see if that is the problem, or should I forget it and buy a second hand nexus 5 for £80? If it is the latter, How would I salvage the data from my old phone?

Thanks in advance

The odds are pretty good that if the power was on something on the board would've shorted.  If that's the case the odds of you recovering your data are pretty slim (to non-existent) for the most part.

My guess is it's not (just) the battery, but if your data was really important than what is 7 bucks to try and recover it.

I flipped a kayak and took my nexus 5 for a little swim in the salt water once, if that's any consolation.  That was an expensive fishing trip!
