Hazy looking text

Go to solution Solved by Ryan Ward,

Ive fixed the problem. For some reason, naming the hdmi input PC changed it into some monitor mode. I dont know why it does this, but it does.

Windows scaling, resolution on tv vs desktop, aspect ratio.

So you're saying that i should change the resolution on the TV?

Are you mirroring the displays, are you extending them? Whats the tv resolution? What type of cable/output are you using? Are you using a monitor + TV?

Figure out the native resolution of the TV (720 or 1080) and set your display settings for the TV to that resolution. You may also want to run the ClearType wizard thing, though I honestly never noticed much of a difference before/after.

Its native resolution is supposed to be 1080p but it does overscan when i set it to that. Should i just try every resolution until the problem goes?

Im extending the displays (with my tv being the main and laptop screen being secondary). As i said to Omon_Ra it is meant to be 1080p and im using a hdmi cable.

You can, but I doubt it will do anything if not make it worse. Does it happen with other displays connected via HDMI that's not your TV?

No. I tried a different tv and it worked fine

It could just be the TV being stupid... Check if there are any hidden settings or if there is a 'PC Mode.' Does the TV happen to have a VGA (or even DVI) input? You could try that if your laptop has a VGA out and see if that's any better. TV's don't always play nice with computers.

Ive tried "game mode" but that just made it worse. My laptop only has hdmi output. I was thinking of getting a dvi to hdmi converter and using a dvi cable but i dont know if that would even work

It depends if it's an analog or digital DVI connection. If it's digital, a DVI cable is literally the same as an HDMI cable, it just doesn't carry audio. Have you tried other computers connected to the TV via HDMI? Or even other HDMI cables? It could just be cheap/crappy/dying HDMI cable?

My ps4 does the same thing. Ive tried 2 different cables and they do the same thing. Could it be the port on my tv dying?

Sounds like it's the TV, not your devices. It may be the port; if there are other HDMI inputs on the TV try them, but if it does it on all sources, something has gone wrong. Maybe double check and see if there is new firmware for your TV or even reflashing whatever is current.
