PC hanged while playing GTA 5 :(

i was playing gta5 off from my Transcend storejet 1tb hdd USB 3.0 j25h3p ( samsung spin point 5400 rpm) , my hdd is fairly new bought only 1 day ago . For better speed i enabled Asus USB 3.0 boost from AI suite 3 , so as i was playing around for 1 hour nice and temp of my ext hdd was under 40 degree constant all of a sudden my pc hanged and blue horizontal lines appeared on my monitor then i had to turn on again by turning it off via psu switch  

so does the hang caused because of my hdd or because of another reasons my gpu was running at 1090/1570 and after i restarted the clock settings didnt change it remained as my oc settings so i think the culprit is the usb 3.0 boost app what do u guys have to opine about this  is my hdd cant keep up or
