Laser Mouse inconsistency

I won a Roccat Nyth laser gaming mouse. I am using a corsair mousepad and I have noticed some in consistency's with tracking and am trying to resolve my issue. My first approach was that it could be the surface. I put the mouse pad on top of a glass desk. The problem is that it frequently doesn't move my cursor or moves it very slowly with stutter. I do not know much about the laser sensor but my old razer deathadder optical worked fine. I am wondering if this could be a defect in my particular mouse or if my surface isn't optimal. I am open to all inputs and have tried different settings and disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse. thanks!
