Hello do i need antistatic device before actually start building my PC?

I don't want to damage something accidentally, i will build it on my desk its wood but it has aluminum at the drawers sides.

Also if i need one where can i find it?

The reason i am asking this question is while i was unpackaging GPU i found something saying ''careful, antistatic'' etc. dont remember exactly but it was saying that this thing is sensitive and antistatic device is recommended.

Thanks in advance!

I've assembled PCs for many years, about a decade, and I never killed a component with static electricity

if you watched the nVidia lab tour guide, manufacturers build their components to resist static discharges

No, an anti-static wrist strap isn't required. Intermittently ground yourself on a metal portion of your case.

You mean touch? [Bad English]

What is ''Intermittently ground'', google translate sucks.

Touch, yes.

Grounding offers a path for electricity so your components aren't subjected (zapped)  to it.

Grounding is about electricity. You need to touch something "grounded" in order to not build up static electricity. From what I understand, the case itself is NOT grounded unless it is connected to a power supply, and the power supply is plugged into the wall. This causes electrical grounding because there is a "ground" prong on the power supply cable going into the wall.

IMPORTANT: power supply must be switched OFF because otherwise, it's an electrocution risk. What I did when I built my PC was plug in the power supply before I put it into my case, turn the power supply off, and just keep touching the power supply while handling the motherboard.

I'm not certain an anti-static wrist strap or mat are needed but I figure it doesn't hurt to use one or both.

If you want to be safe/careful then get an anti-static wrist strap like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-Anti-Static-Components-RTK-002-Yellow/dp/B004N8ZQKY?ie=UTF8&keywords=anti%20static%20wrist%20strap&qid=1463858373&ref_=sr_1_1&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011%2Cp_6%3AATVPDKIKX0DER&rps=1&s=electronics&sr=1-1

You could also get a mat like this if you want to be extra careful:

http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-24x27-5-Inch-Desktop-Anti-Static-M3013/dp/B00009XT3H/ref=pd_sim_147_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=3120dx4cI3L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL320_SR320%2C320_&refRID=1CM23E1B80J2M6P8AQB9

I'd suggest at least getting a wrist strap since it's very cheap and helps keep your stuff protected.

If you're working on a wooden surface then the mat probably isn't required but I mentioned just in case anyone was interested.

I hope this helps.
