Hey guys!

I suppose I should start with this graphics card isn't mine. I'm getting my hands on it tomorrow, and it's supposedly dead. No, I did not spend any money on it.

It's a XFX 7870 (http://www.amazon.com/XFX-DisplayPort-PCI-Express-FX787ACDFC-FX-787A-CDFC/dp/B007MJGMYA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463617391&sr=8-1&keywords=xfx+7870) and it stopped working when the guy who's giving it to me kicked his computer. Then, lines started appearing on the monitor and once restarting his computer, he got a screen with a ton of fuzz (cyan dots and such everywhere). Would this be a display port issue, or would the graphics card actually be dead? Should I assume it's a potato and put it in an oven like Linus did with his 780 ti?

Thanks for the replies, and I'll test whatever you guys say out tomorrow.

Put it on the oven for a while under heat :D sometimes it actually help bring back the dead ...

Did once to my old 4600ti .

I guess sometimes get the PCB and the soldering right... or not :P

Though bear in mind it's not a permanent fix at all, and you are not affecting any kind of solder.

@lukart I won't, I'll probably need to use thermal paste and Vaseline as thermal paste because I'm all out of regular stuff :P

Not sure of the thermal properties of Vaseline, and how it compares to thermal compound.

@Godlygamer23 I did it once with an old AMD Athlon I had laying around, and it worked pretty well. I plan on it being a temporary fix until I get around to getting more thermal paste.

Good. And remember what I said about the oven method. Not permanent by any means.
