Okay, I’m not a huge gamer. I play Starcraft competitively, but on the absolute lowest settings. I run RC car, RC helicopter, and RC airplane simulators. Everyone seems hellbent on 144hz, but I am more concerned with youtube quality than response times and refresh rates. About 85% of my PC time is spent watching youtube videos, making spreadsheets, college work, typing reports, more college stuff, and general media consumption(~60% of 85% is YouTube). I spend up to 3 hours in a day playing Starcraft or practicing on a simulator, if that, a few times a week.

I have been looking at a few full HD 144hz monitors for around $250, but I’d rather spend under $500 for higher resolution monitor (maybe even 4k, if its possible?). I have a i7 and a r9 390, keeping in mind the most graphically demanding task I run are simulators and youtube videos(I will always run Starcraft on absolute lowest settings for strategic reasons).

Is it really that important to have higher refresh rates and response times over higher resolution, for me?

With all that being said, can y'all experts recommend a good monitor for me?

I like: ASUS PB278Q  ASUS MX27AQ Dell S2716DG

Thank you

for starcraft and sims refresh rate doesn't matter starcraft would need 60 fps max (though you wouldn't be at a disadvantage with 30) and its the same with sims, 144hz is for things like cs go, where the split second you have over your opponent matters. For your use case i would go with a higher resolution. Also just ensure that you get an ips panel over a tn

So how are the 3 I suggested in the post? What is the best value orientated 4k monitor out there atm?

Thank you, I think this is what I wanted.

I’ve noticed that most monitors on PCpartpicker and in general are several years old.

As for the 3 monitors you posted... I wouldn't pay over $500 for TN panel (Dell) if I could get 4K IPS for the same price and this resolution was okay for me like it is for you apparently. And the other 2 are Asus monitors, this manufacturer is known from many quality issues with his monitors, and also has terrible customer support, so I wouldn't look at them either. If you want 2560x1440 then look at LG or most preferably on Dell Ultrasharp line, they have excellent warranty and quality. U2515H or U2715H, if you decide to go for 1440p instead of 4k.
