SD reader doesn't detect cards

running ubuntu 16. my SD reader shows in disks app but doesn't detect any media when i put in a card.

Are you trying to put in an unsupported card, like an SDXC into an original SD reader by chance?

nope just a standard SD card and tried micro with an adapter. worse part is the reader is detected but nothing I put in is.

I assume you've proven that the SD card(s) themselves are functional by testing in another system then.  In that case, I would have to guess the reader is defective, but it you could always try it in another system as well.  It's exceedingly unlikely but it may have some issue with Linux.

when I run windows it works without any problems. I've now moved to linux (ubuntu) and it doesn't work

oh  well then that's solved: it's a software issue.  Now the question is why...  hm...

thats my problem lol i've tried adding usb_storage and usb_modules to /etc/modules and rebooting but that had no effect

My only guess would be that something is not mounting properly.  I can't imagine it needs any specific driver or anything like that, and I can't imagine it wouldn't be supported.  Mounting, or permissions... that would be my best guess.  sorry

I will keep looking into might end up just getting a usb one.
