Hello,

I'm stuck between two options to connect my PC to my television. I'll be buying this GPU https://www.zotac.com/us/product/graphics_card/gtx-980-amp and I need help regarding the connections required.

So the two options I have are:

  1. Using a DVI to VGA adapter and a VGA cable to connect the television (the TV doesn't have a DVI port) and use an aux cable for audio which connects the TV and the motherboard.
  2. Using an HDMI cable to connect the GPU to the TV.

The problem lies in the second option as I don't know if the GPU has its own audio chip or it acts as a pass-through for on-board motherboard audio. If it is the former, will I be experiencing a worse audio quality because it's not utilizing the on-board audio? or is it of the same quality?

The above mentioned "motherboard" is a MSI z170a gaming M5.
