I'm building a light gaming and 3D Animation pc for a friend and i'm a little stuck. Currently the build that I have is as follows:

Cpu: FX 6300 119 $

Heatsink: Stock Amd

Motherboard: MSI 970A-G46 39 $

Ram: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3 69 $

Gpu: ASUS GTX660-DC2 OC -2GD5 207 $

Hdd: 1tb WD blue (recycling this from my build)

Psu: Inland Gold Series ILG-400-2 400 Watt 29 $

-

The issue that I have is that I have a AMD Athlon II X4 640 lying around and that would allow me the budget to get a slightly better gpu, more memory and a better case. However I dont know how the athlon will perform exactly for 3d animation, Photoshop and light gaming.

That's a pretty tight budget for such a machine. Definitely don't use your Athlon CPU, the FX 6300 pretty much doubles it in performance. Also I have no clue what kind of PSU that is, but you should look into something like a Corsair 430w. The PSU is the one thing you shouldn't cheap out on. Also you might be able to find a 7950 for a similar price of that 660, depending on where you're buying from.

Setup Video -----------Peasant Crushing Specs----------- 4K Benchmarks

-CPU- i7 3930k @4.8GHz 1.4v -Mobo- Asus Rampage IV Extreme -GPUs- 2x GTX Titan Hydrocopper SLI -RAM- 32GB (8x4GB) Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz -Storage- 500GB Samsung 840 SSD | 2TB WD Green HDD

Well ill be buying from micro center as I live in canada and am a border city so I'm 15 min from a microcenter. Also I was considering the corsair 430 but out of the 60 reviews ive read on that psu it seems to be great quality. Also, wouldnt the 660 be better for photoshop because of cuda?

Photoshop along with most of Adobe can use OpenCL.
