I just bought new ram and realized that it is incompatible. It's 1866 MHz but my

motherboard only supports 1600MHz. Is there any way I can underclock it to work? BTW. My computer freezes when I enter the section where you change the clocks so that's not an option!

Basically, in most cases, the RAM will simply run at 1600 speeds. Often you don't need to make any settings changes in the BIOS, but in some cases you have to set the speeds and timings manually.

I'd start by just plugging it in and see if it works - nothing really bad would happen (no smoke or flames. :) )

Btw, if you are adding this in addition to RAM you already have installed, things could get trickier since the system will try to run at the slowest speed. If your current RAM is, say, 1333, the 1866 might not be able to downclock that much reliably, but if the current RAM is 1600, then the system should be able to run all the RAM at 1600.
